Good practices
for migrants reception and integration (2018)

Client: Amnesty International Italia

Action: laboratory for stakeholders consultation on participative identification of good practices for integration and reception of migrants and refugees in the Riace and Camini territory.  Riace and Camini are two small villages located in the coastal area of Calabria (IT) which are considered to be an innovative model of refugees inclusion. The leading idea in this area was to integrate the aim of humanitarian hospitality with the aim of repopulating and regenerating the abandoned inland settlement.

Challenge: to identify the transformative changes and the systemic value engendered by the reception and integration practices

Inclusive social impact engendered: increased understanding, awareness and learning of the social value and the multidimensional change occurred within the local community through multicultural co-existence and integration; empowerment of local stakeholders and beneficiaries of reception projects in terms of: increased sense of belonging, improvement of the perceived value of one’s work/experience and increased self-confidence as change-makers

Methodology: participative evaluation through storytelling. The activity included interviews to beneficiaries, local citizens, volunteers and operators of the local city reception project.
