educational gaming/racial discrimination

Participating Organizations: UNAR

Action: an educational game addressed to young people to break stereotypes, raise awareness on racial discrimination and combat distorted news on migrants through reliable data and sound information.
A social experiment based on the mechanism of self-identification through storytelling, with challenges, choices, prizes and penalties for players.

Challenge: to make young people feel in the shoes of a migrant, to create an effective identification mechanism by means of realistic and credible stories of discrimination. An additional challenge was to inform young people on the real life conditions of migrants in their society by providing reliable data and information in a simple, clear and effective language.

Inclusive social impact engendered: higher sense of empathy and understanding, decrease of prejudices and stereotypes amongst non migrant young people towards persons with a migrant background.

Methodology: psycho-social analysis through gaming; participatory impact assessment through a creative assessment laboratory and a quantitative research in collaboration with the Observatory on Youth Cultures of the University of Salerno
